Did you know that the Miss America beauty pageant is nearly one hundred years old? The very first pageant was held in 1921 in New Jersey. The very first winner took home $100 as price money. One hundred thousand people attended the event.
The 2014 winner, Nina Davuluri, went home with $50,000 and the an estimated 1.1 million viewers watched the event.
Nina Davuluri is the first Indian-American to win Miss America.
